Newton Fund project with UCL
Chaiyong Ragkhitwetsagul, Morakot Choetkiertikul, and Thanwadee Sunetnanta received a Newton Fund grant from the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK, under its Industry Academia Partnership Programme 18/19, for the project “Automated Software Engineering for Thailand Software Industry”. SERU partners with Dr. Jens Krinke and Dr. Federica Sarro of University College London (UCL) and the UK company Prodo.ai to bring expertise in automated software engineering from the UK to Thailand. The team works with four rising Thai software companies, ProGaming, Zwiz.AI, CourseSquare, and Trinity Roots. Together they look for gaps in the companies' development processes, run workshops and training, and observe what improves after the companies adopt automated software engineering tools and techniques.
On 17 May 2019, DongGyun Han, a PhD student about to graduate from CREST at UCL, visited SERU to discuss research on supporting modern code review, and the team planned to use the semi-structured interview method from that research in the project. The project ran until November 2022 with funding from the Newton Fund, the Royal Academy of Engineering, and Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI). It produced papers at SANER 2022, in Empirical Software Engineering in 2024, and in the Journal of Systems and Software in 2026.
