Software SME challenges at SANER 2022
Chaiyong Ragkhitwetsagul presented “Identifying Software Engineering Challenges in Software SMEs: A Case Study in Thailand” in the Industry Track of SANER 2022, the IEEE International Conference on Software Analysis, Evolution and Reengineering, which CORE ranks A. Through semi-structured interviews with four small and medium-sized software enterprises in Thailand, the study found common challenges such as a lack of testing, code-related issues, and inaccurate effort estimation. Before such companies can bring in advanced automated software engineering tools, they need to adopt current best practices such as automated testing, continuous integration, and automated code review. The paper also suggests that researchers engage with these companies to help them learn and adopt better practices.
The study is part of the project “Automated Software Engineering for Thailand Software Industry”, funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering's Industry Academia Partnership Programme (IAPP18-19/74) through the Newton Fund in the UK and by Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI).
