Newton Fund project wraps up

Newton Fund project wraps up

Dr. Jens Krinke of University College London (UCL) and Chaiyong Ragkhitwetsagul visited three of our industry partners, Roots, CourseSquare, and ProGaming, to conclude the project “Automated Software Engineering for Thailand Software Industry”. Over four years, the project studied the software engineering challenges of Thai software SMEs, their awareness and adoption of automated software engineering tools and techniques, and how SonarQube and unit testing can benefit them. The findings show that these companies work under several constraints that hold back their adoption of advanced techniques, so they still need to adopt the basic ones fully first. Both the researchers and the companies learned a lot from the project and look forward to working together again.

The Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK funded the project through the Newton Fund, together with Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI). It produced papers on the challenges of Thai software SMEs at SANER 2022, on the adoption of automated software engineering tools in Empirical Software Engineering in 2024, and on knowledge transfer to four companies in the Journal of Systems and Software in 2026.
