Microusity accepted at ICPC 2023
Microusity, the graduation project of Pattarakrit Rattanukul, Chansida Makaranond, and Pumipat Watanakulcharus, was accepted in the Tool Demonstration track of ICPC 2023, the 31st IEEE/ACM International Conference on Program Comprehension, which CORE ranks A. The tool runs RESTful API tests on Backends for Frontends (BFF), a microservice pattern, and traces BFF requests by mapping each request to the sub-requests that the BFF sends to back-end services. It pinpoints the back-end service behind an internal server error, which may lead to unhandled errors or vulnerabilities, and shows the source of the error in a report and a graph. Eight software practitioners who evaluated it found Microusity and its security test reports useful for understanding problems in BFF systems.
Chaiyong Ragkhitwetsagul advised the project, with Vasaka Visoottiviseth and LINE MAN Wongnai as co-advisors. Before the paper, the team presented Microusity in the selection round of the Invention Awards 2022 at the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) on 19 and 20 September 2022, and the project reached the poster round of NSC 2022. Pattarakrit and Pumipat presented the tool at ICPC 2023 in Melbourne in May 2023.
