Gitcoin study accepted in JSS

Our paper “Studying the association between Gitcoin's issues and resolving outcomes” was accepted in the Journal of Systems and Software (JSS), a Q1 journal. Gitcoin is a bounty platform where the owner of an open-source issue sets a reward in cryptocurrency for the person who resolves it. The study examined more than 4,000 issues with Gitcoin bounties using statistical analysis and machine learning, and compared Gitcoin with the Bountysource platform. It found that the length of the project, the issue description, the type of bounty issue, and the bounty value are closely associated with whether an issue gets resolved. The work is a collaboration between SERU, NAIST, and Shinshu University.

It grew from a senior project by Arada Puengmongkolchaikit, Pandaree Chandra, and Varuit Wuttisathit during their research internship at NAIST, which Morakot Choetkiertikul supervised with Hideaki Hata. Volume 206 of the journal carried the paper in December 2023.
