Jupyter notebook study accepted in EMSE

Our paper “An Empirical Comparison of Jupyter Notebooks in Kaggle and GitHub Data Science Projects” has been accepted in Empirical Software Engineering (EMSE), a Q1 journal. Data scientists widely use computational notebooks to share knowledge, practice skills, and collaborate, but there are few practical guidelines for writing a good notebook. The team analyzed 7,987 Kaggle notebooks and 2,342 GitHub notebooks, comparing 33 features of each notebook. As Kaggle contributors rise in rank, their notebooks tend to become more elaborate and better documented rather than more concise, though the effects are small. The study began with Tasha Settewong's research internship at the Software Engineering Laboratory of NAIST in 2021 and grew through an APSEC 2022 paper and an MSR 2023 registered report.
